2) Ridge Expansion: Expanding the alveolar ridge to accommodate implants.

3) Carotta Graft: Using Carotta bone graft material for site preparation.

Soft Tissue Grafting - 7/25- 7/27/2025

Focus: 2 Days of Live Surgeries

Techniques Covered:

1) FGG (Free Gingival Graft): Grafting tissue to enhance gingival health.

2) CT (Connective Tissue) Graft: Using connective tissue grafts for improved soft tissue contours.

After completing this course, the participant will be able to recognize:

MODULE 1

  • Case selection and indications of crestal versus lateral sinus lifts.
  • indications for carotta grafting versus Ridge Expansion
  • Practical experience in these procedures
  • Treatment planning and CBCT interpretation 
  • PASS principles for predictable bone regeneration
  • Flap design and suture techniques
  • Alveolar ridge regenerative strategies 
  • What is your choice ? Autogenous, Allogenic and/or Xenograft bone  
  • Case selection and indications for sinus augmentation with vertical and lateral sinus approaches 
  • Intra-oral sources for autogenous bone graft

MODULE 2

  • Techniques Covered:

    • Learn how to harvest and place free gingival grafts to increase the width of keratinized tissue around implants and enhance peri-implant tissue stability and health.
    • Master the use of connective tissue grafts to improve soft tissue contours, achieve optimal esthetics, and treat gingival recessions with predictable root coverage outcomes.
    1. What are gingival recessions and what are their types?
    2. Can all types of gingival recessions be covered?
    3. Can any implant surface coverage with recessions be achieved successfully?
    4. Each participant will perform live gingival procedures on patients (FGG & CT graft)
    5. What are other reasons to perform connective tissue grafts, even without recessions?
    6. When should you use connective tissue grafts and when should you use a free gingival graft?
    7. What are the harvesting techniques of connective tissue grafts (5 techniques)?
    8. Which donor site is best for connective tissue grafts?
    9. Best suturing techniques to stabilize the graft and minimize patient discomfort
    10. How to manage the donor site? How to reduce pain and bleeding and improve patient acceptance?
    11. What are the most predictable alternatives to using the patient’s own tissue?
    12. What is the role of biologics in improving treatment outcomes? Is it just a hoax?
Prior level of experience in Basic surgical skills of flap and suturing,
and implant treatment planning is needed.
Mohamed Othman, DDS, FICOI, AFAAID

Andrea Ravida, DDS, MS

Dr. Andrea Ravidà is the Program Director of the Periodontics department at the university of Pittsburgh. He completed the periodontal specialty training in Graduate Periodontics at the University of Michigan and the PhD at the University of Granada. He has been teaching as a full-time clinical faculty at the University of Michigan in the 2021-2022 academic year. He teaches topics related to periodontal/implant disease and implant therapy to graduate periodontal residents in the clinics and in the classroom. He also conducts clinical research focusing on peri-implantitis, periodontitis and short implants.

Dr. Andrea Ravidà published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and conference abstracts/presentations related to periodontics and implant therapy. He is section editor of the International Journal of Oral Implantology and the Journal of Translational Medicine. He serves as a reviewer and in the editorial board for multiple international journals covering periodontics and implant dentistry. He received several other awards from the nation’s authority in periodontics and implantology (American Academy of Periodontology and Academy of Osseointegration) including the Schoor Research Award in 2020, the Educator Scholarship (2021) and William Laney Award (2020)

Ihab M. Hanna

DDS, FAAID-DABOI

Dr. Ihab M. Hanna graduated, with honors, in 1994 from Cairo University. Afterward, he spent three years in training and hospital residency before moving to San Francisco. He completed two years of General practice residency at the University of Illinois, as a chief resident, where he acquired additional training in the use of Dental Implants, sedation, and special care dentistry.

With over 25 years of implant dentistry experience and faculty at Hiossen’s implant education program, Dr. Hanna has extended his skills and knowledge to the community through his implant study club where he supports general dentists in advancing their education further.

Dr. Hanna is the founder of the RWC Implant Study Club and is committed to sharing dental implant education with the general dentist community.

Mohamed Othman, DDS, FICOI, AFAAID

 

Dr. Mohamed Othman received his dental degree from October 6 University in Egypt and then completed a one-year Internship at October 6 University Hospital. He also completed the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) one-year Implant training course in Alexandria, Egypt. Dr.Othman practiced four years in his own private office before moving to the United States to complete the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program and the Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry in the School of Dental Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Additionally, he served as a Clinical Instructor in the AEGD Residency at Case Western Reserve University. In 2015, he held a position at the St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, as an assistant program director in general practice residency (GPR), and he was elevated to program director in March 2016. Dr. Othman was awarded as Dentistry Teacher of the Year in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 from St. Vincent Charity Medical Centers. He joined his wife, Dr. Huh at Huh Dental Wellness in November 2019. Dr.Othman completed 2 years mini-residency at the RWC implant study club
